Problems with Yeplike’s sharing function on Facebook

Hi Yeplikers,

many of you have been reporting some problems with Yeplike’s sharing function on Facebook since yesterday afternoon (04/29/2011).

Unfortunately this is a known issue: by selecting the “share on Facebook” option (or by trying to authenticate via Facebook connect) you will receive an error message saying: “An error occurred with Yeplike! Please try again later.

As you may have read online or learnt via our Twitter feed, a Facebook automated system arbitrarily disabled Yeplike removing the app with no prior notice, automatically disabling Yeplike’s sharing option.

And on top of it all the Facebook team wiped out all of your pictures from your walls and your stream along with the relative comments and likes.

Following our emails and communications with Facebook we learned that the application’s previous status will not be recovered (since Facebook officials are stating that those procedures are irreversible) and we have been invited to re-create a new application (thus meaning the release of an app update on the iTunes store and its consequent approval).

While waiting for further explanations form Facebook we have already submitted the app for review to Apple. We feel confident the service should get back to normal in 4/5 days .

There are no words to express how sorry we are… we will keep you posted as further details become available.

Thanks a lot for your patience and for your kind support.

Like or dislike, but… also Win or Fail, Love or Hate!

Hi Yeplikers,
as you may have noticed an update to Yeplike’s new version has been released a few days ago (v.1.2). If you have not done it already (shame on you!!) you can Download it now and start using Yeplike’s new functionalities.

What’s new in version 1.2.0

  • Twitter integration
  • New badges: Win/Fail and Love/Hate
  • Rating system (1 to 5 stars)
  • User’s gallery
  • Minor fixes and optimizations
  • New badges
  • Compatibility with 4.1 ios version;

If you’ve already used the app, you may have noticed that we have introduced the possibility of switching badges to express new and different opinions (WIN/FAIL – LOVE/HATE) via your pictures. To unlock these new badges just invite your friends to sign up to Yeplike.

There are three ways you can do it:

  • by sharing your referral link via Facebook or Twitter or any other social network
  • by using the “invite friends” function on Yeplike’s website
  • by using the “invite friends” function on the badge selection screen

New Website
Yeplike’s website has been updated to support the app new functions. You can now:

  • Search your friends and follow other Yeplikers
  • Share your “Yepexperiences” on Facebook, Twitter and Foursquare
  • Check your gallery and manage your pictures
  • Search and save your previous searches
  • Embed the search html code to your website
  • Check the Top Yeplikers chart
  • What’s next

Yeplike had a great start so we are already planning version 2.0. Want to know what’s cooking?

  • Friends’ search and invite functions
  • Personal and friends’ gallery feed
  • Pictures comments
  • Pictures chart
  • Map based searches and nearest pictures visualization
  • Android and Windows Phone versions
  • Yeplike API release

As you can see we are looking forward to improving your Yeplike experience with lots of fresh new ideas, so stay tuned and help us spread the word around!

Yeplike! server migration : We’re back on line!

Hi Yeplikers,
as you may have noticed starting from yesterday night up until a few hours ago Yeplike’s service has not been available (from 0.30 to 17.45). We have been experiencing some infrastructure problems that our provider has not been able to solve “on the fly” forcing us to operate a last minute change of provider.

The service is back on line at the moment and the retrieval of some pictures is under completion. Let us assure you that no data or picture was lost and that the complete collection will be back online in the next few hours.

We managed to turn this inconvenience into the chance to migrate to a bigger and more performing infrastructure.

Let us thank all of you fellow Yeplikers for your patience, support and reports you sent via emails, tweets.

YepLike! now in App Store!

Hi guys!

Last night YepLike has finally been released on the Apple Store! You can download it directly from here or look for it in the App Store  as “YepLike” … or een as “Dislike” 🙂

What is YepLike!? YepLike is a fun way to share with your friends your “like”s and “dislike”s through a series of pictures. Snap a photo with your iPhone, then choose if you Like it or Dislike it. YepLike is to free apps!

So is it all clear now? You will find more information in the FAQ section of the site otherwise:

Once downloaded the application, register and then begin to share photos on Facebook and YepLike. This is a quick update releasing new features: the user gallery, the public gallery and the map of “Like”s and “Dislike”s around you. Other activated functions along with the ability to share pictures with your friends are already on the website.

So what are you waiting for ? Start expressing what you think about the world around you!

Hi, this is YepLike! Startup in 72h

Hi, my name is Fabio. A few nights ago, on Friday February 18th while delirious from a high fever and flu, and frankly pissed off ( how could it be possible for a man aged 33 to catch a fever just like a baby?) I had a stupid idea that was just as nice: I want to
be able to stick a Like or Dislike, thumps up or thumbs down on everything that
doesn’t work in the real world… no more Internet of things or augmented reality… a
simple “Like” of things!

Without even checking whether online something similar was already uped in the
midst of a startup euphoria (the state Nicola Mattina defines as my “compulsive
startupping” behaviour …) I started fast designing and I prepared a mockup with
Balsamiq. After a couple of two hours of scrawls, some jotted down lines on a piece of paper and some ER schemes I decided to go ahead : I want to do a startup in 72 hours, and its name will be YEPLIKE.

In order to succeed an effective and optimized plan was needed:

  1. Team and roles definition
  2. Core functionalities and capabilites settings
  3. Infrastructure and technology definition
  4. Bare bones no fluff.
  5. Development and Buzz!
  6. AppleStore delivery

Let’s start with step number one: team and roles.
I usually like to share all my new initiatives with Indigeni Digitali team and see who wants to be involved. In this case I didn’t got much time so I decided to go on Crino77 and Alisoba without any risk; after all, If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it, so same team of Baby 2.0.
The role were the same too: Crino was in charge of mobile development, Alisoba
in charge of design/web/comunication and Marketing / Web and fuffa varie for me.
First checked with an email for sharing idea and mockup. An email sharing all of
the above is sent and step n.1 is checked.

Step number two: Core functionalities
At the beginning of a project it’s easy to let the grandness overcome and start
daydreaming about lots of functionalities. The consequences are longer release and
starting dates. I definitely do not want to make that mistake: few features but
now. Yeplike goal iso ne and only: you take a picture you add a like or dislike
watermark, you geotag it and you share it on the website. We’ll think about other
features later on.

Step number three: Infrastructure and technology definition.
Considering this app’s core feature (taking pix and sending them to the server),
should it reach high traffic volumes the system will have to rapidly scale as far
as storage and database and dedicated bandwidth are concerned.

The first idea that popped into my mind was Amazon fast check between activation and testing the time We then opted for a temporary service, a dedicated technology: Objective-C for iPhone, PhP e MySQL as application.

Step number four: Bare bones no fluff. As for step number two once a new project has started you want it to be released “tops”. I then asked myself a question: “Does
perfection exist or should I just strive for it?” I opted for the latter since here we’re talking about a startup made in 72h, we need to be aware there will be soo many things to be improved. Let’s set a decent and intuitive UI and a solid system….the rest will come.

Step number five: Development and Buzz! The development started for the web and the iPhone app at the same time. We have APIs which provide methods for Registration, Login and Posts on one side and for mobile device integration on the other. Then the web front end. Being a firm believer of the need of marketing campaigns also for startups (contrary to general beliefs) as the development moved forward I started spreading the word around, generating some buzz and collecting the first beta invites
emails. We currently have 350 pending requests (50% of which from abroad)

Step number 6: App Store delivery. All of the above has been achieved in 7 days
but with an effective working time of only 72 hours!

Since this morning our pending Apple Store Status is: Review so in just a few hours
Yeplike will be available. Without such a committed team it would have been impossibile to do it so… Thanks Cri and thanks Ali!

We just have to wait and see.

But to think o fan iPhone app to like or dislike things when Facebook decide sto
modify its Like button and Diesel Jeans launches a Dislike application… Makes me
hope for the best.
